Al Risalah Education Trust

Al-Risalah Education Trust has a board of trustees supported by a director. The trustees bring a wealth of skills and expertise to support the work of the Trust.

Trustees meet regularly and contribute to the operation and advancement of the organisation.

The strategic development of our schools is led by the Headteacher in consultation with the trust director and the Al-Risalah Trust Governing Bodies.

The Director of Al-Risalah Trust works closely with all the headteachers collectively and individually in the continuous development of our schools. Islamic Studies provision, Imam Services, RE provision, governance and leadership are amongst some of the items supported by the Trust.

M NAIEEM SIDDIQUI Chair

Naeem is a founding member of the Balham Preparatory School. He worked incredibly hard in giving the school a strong foundation to build upon. The Trust has developed significantly due to his energetic work during the first 10 years of the organization’s existence. Naeem and members of his family continue to support the Trust with their professional expertise.

Haroon Kareem (OBE) Deputy Chair

Haroon Kareem has played an active role in the development of the Al-Risalah Education Trust. He was the chair of Balham Masjid Committee and assisted with the opening of the Balham Prep School. He served as chair for Balham Prep/Al-Risalah School since 1993 to 2004. He was appointed the deputy chair for Gatton Primary School when it opened in September 2004. He was instrumental in the construction and funding project of Gatton and Orchard School. Haroon is well known within the community for the services rendered for Balham Mosque Memon Centre and Al-Risalah Trust Schools.

ARSHAD DAUD Trustee

Arshad is a pragmatic hand on individual, with strong communications skills. He is a strategic thinker and has the ability to decipher vast amounts of detail into simple executional steps, which then provides a very strong foundation for the work he takes on. Arshad has played a major role in general and business community work such as Balham Mosque, BATCA and Merton Chamber of Commerce over the years.

YUNUS BOBAT Trustee

Yunus is an active member of the community. He has been a foundation governor at Gatton School from its inception. He is the chair of Governors of both Gatton Primary and Al-Risalah School. He has a passion for education. By profession he is a chartered accountant. His financial skills helps the Trust with strong oversight of its finances.

MOULANA MAKSUD GANGAT (MBE) Director

Moulana Maksud joined Al-Risalah in 1995 as a religious education teacher and imam at Balham Mosque. Since then he has taken various leadership roles including headship. Maulana Maksud is a graduate of Madinah University and Durul Uloom Bury. He is a student and one of the vicegerents of the late Hazrat Sheikh Moulana Yusuf Motala Rahimahullah. He serves as a governor at every Trust school and is responsible for the strategic direction of the Al-Risalah Trust. He works closely with the leadership team of Trust schools. He is the chair of governors of Orchard VA Primary School and chairs the Teaching and Learning committee at Gatton school. He has also served as a governor at Fircroft School and South Thames College. He is also a Trustee of an Islamic seminary Madinatul Uloom in Kidderminster and a governor at Azhar Academy school secondary and primary school in East London.
